'Taking his cue from the original club sign, Newton plays on this familiar emblem and twists the design into a contemporary graphic which he displays on the skin of a bass drum. The drum sits as if discarded or forgotten by an in-house band and fades into the permanent decor of the club. Engaging with the space's links with entertainment and performance, Newton offers the viewer a celebration of the club's traditions which continue to be explored today.'
